Electrical: Lighting Maintenance Reduces Expenses

Electrical: Lighting Maintenance Reduces Expenses
A common lighting maintenance misconception is that bulbs only need to be changed once they’ve died. However, this creates a situation where bulbs are constantly being replaced on a piecemeal, as needed basis. The alternative is relamping, where bulbs are replaced even if they’re not dead, on a scheduled basis.

Why Schedule?

Scheduling allows for a more efficient distribution of the work needed to relamp. Instead of constantly trying to find time to replace burnt out bulbs, you rotate on an already determined schedule, replacing bulbs that are near the end of their lifespan. This blocks off the time in advance, and is a more efficient use of your facility’s resources. Relamping in this manner offers a number of other benefits to your facility.

Reduced Energy Usage

Replacing old bulbs with more efficient ones is a simple way to cut the energy usage in your facility. Consider the following. You can get the same amount of light out of a 15-watt CFL bulb as you can a 65-watt incandescent bulb. That’s 50 less watts, which is a lot less energy. It’s not hard to see how this can result in huge energy savings when you apply it on a facility-wide scale.
